The thing that happened with my son almost 2 weeks ago is apparently at a stand-still. I waited until this past Monday to call the police station. The detective unit has No Record of my son in their computer system, none at all. Apparently the officer who originally showed up at my house has still not even filed a report. None of the other kids involved have been contacted (and the school still does not know, yay!), with the exception of one who went to the station voluntarily that same night. I have left that officer 3 voice mails so far, with no response.
I have to assume there will still be an investigation as property of my son and the other boy was confiscated as evidence, and has not been returned. If not, give us the damn property back already and let us get on with our lives! Or at least stop ignoring my voice mails and call me back! Frustrated! But maybe seeing a glimmer of hope on the horizon - it can't be as serious as I was led to believe if they haven't acted on it more quickly, right?
As I'm sick of waiting around any longer, I gave in to my mother's pressure and booked flights today to go visit. We leave for Florida two weeks from tomorrow! She lives on the west coast of Florida a couple hours south of Tampa. They are less than a half hour from some of the most beautiful beaches and I can't wait to plop my lazy ass on one of them for 3 days straight! Some of those beaches are also the best place to find fossilized shark's teeth, which are really cool and a lot of fun to dig through the sand for. Here are a couple of pics I took of Englewood beach about 6 years ago. It was beautiful even in January when it was only 45 degrees out. Which also explains why they were deserted.
This is a picture of my father's backyard on a canal of the Myakka River. I've seen alligators and manatee right from an adirondak chair a foot away from the seawall. One time my father and I even saw a baby bobcat on the opposite bank. It is a really cool place to go if you like wildlife. Which I do. (That little spot of sand in the upper right corner is where the resident male alligator suns himself in warmer weather.)
There is a pier in Venice that you can see wild dolphins from, and I can't wait to do that. My mother is talking about going down to the Everglades and going on one of those airboats. When I told my son about it, he said it doesn't sound like fun at all, it sounds boring. I said, "but honey, remember how much you liked seeing the alligators when we went on that cruise of the Myakka River?" "Yeah, but mom, I was like 8". "No, you were 11, and it was cool as hell. And we'll go to the beach a lot, too." "I don't want to go to the beach."
I'm thinking I'm going to have a much better time if I just leave his grumpy ass at home. Or maybe some time in Juvey will make him think a trip to Florida to see his Nana would be fun. Although, now that I'm typing it, for a 14 year old boy taking a trip to Florida to see his Nana sounds about right up there with a trip to Juvey. And having his embarassing mother along for the ride is just icing on the cake. Have I mentioned how much 14 sucks? I don't care, I'm going on vacation! In two weeks!

Ahhh...sounds like you need a vacation! Florida sounds great! I just booked our June trip today! :)
Take that vacation and enjoy every damn second of it, Fancy! You deserve it!
This could be just what the doctor ordered for you! I hope you enjoy yourself immensely. And bring back more Bobcat pictures (or any).
Drink in your hand and toes in the sand!
I so need a vacation. I promise to have my camera ready for every picture opportunity, and I promise to have every opprtunity ready for vodka to be involved.
HAVE FUN!
(A year ago this week I was plopped on the beach in Cabo.)
I'm glad you are getting away!!! Although I'm green w/ envy at your cool beachcombing opportunities! lol
I hope you get some great photos of the wildlife. And your son will have to get over it. We all got dragged to stuff in our early teens that we would have preferred not to go to. Like when my 2 best friends got to go on a trip to Scotland & England w/ our high school's chorus (which my mother refused to let me join that year and forced me into Journalism class instead). My consolation prize that spring break? A trip to Pennsylvania Dutch country. My 2 best friends are galavanting around the British isles and I'm being dragged around farm country. Just tell your son it builds character.
Vacation sounds like it is right on time!
He is young and full of testosterone - he will LOVE hauling ass in a fan boat. But he certainly will not show you that he had fun.
ENJOY your vacation!
Just what the doctor ordered, i do believe. ;)
Oh good! You need a vacation! It's so fun to have something to look forward to. Wooohooo!!!!!
I love your attitude -- go enjoy your vacation, cross the other bridge when you come to it!
Reminds me a bit of my 12th grade English teacher. One of his favorite phrases was "Let's make hay while the sun shines honey." (Along with berating us when we acted up, saying that we were "stomping on his heart with hob-nailed boots.") He was an interesting guy...
I'm dying for a vacation. Well, maybe not DYING, but you know, I had to be all dramatic and stuff.
Aunt Becky - you had a baby instead!
